Studying IN Canada

Visit the Citizenship and Immigration Canada website for useful information about attending postsecondary institutions in Canada.

On-Campus Housing
Life in residence can be extremely rewarding and pleasant. It is a great opportunity to make friends, learn new things, share cultures and experiences, and be close to classrooms and other facilities. For more information, visit Cambrian Residence.

What is my financial responsibility?

We estimate that one year of study at Cambrian College in Canada will cost you approximately CAD$21,000, including tuition, books, accommodations, on-campus residence, etc. This may vary depending on your personal situation and preferences. By sending us your application, you are implying your understanding of this financial commitment and your ability to meet your financial obligations.

Tuition Fees

The tuition fee for international students at Cambrian College is $10,224.00 for the 2010-11 academic year (8 months) for most programs. Note: this amount includes mandatory health insurance coverage for the year.

Once students have received an offer of admission, a confirmation fee of $400 is required to reserve their seat in the program. This amount will be deducted from the total tuition upon registration. The deposit fee is not transferable to another academic year and is non-refundable.

Note: The fees for some programs may be different than that quoted above. The amount can be confirmed with the Cambrian International Office.

Other Costs to Consider

The tuition does not include the cost of:

  • Textbooks and supplies ($700 to $1,700 per year, depending on program
  • On-Campus Residence ($4,858 per academic year. A $500 non-refundable deposit must accompany your application. Off-campus housing can range from $3,500 to $5,500 per year
  • Living expenses such as food, clothing, household supplies, local travel costs, etc. ($4,000 to $5,000 per year)

Planning for your Studies

Financial planning is an integral part of preparing for your post secondary studies. Determining what your expenses and sources of income will be is just as crucial to a positive college experience as are researching your intended program of study and learning more about the campus and about Canada.

In order to obtain a Study Permit, all international students who apply to study in Canada must have sufficient resources to be self-reliant. International students are not eligible for Ontario provincial financial aid and many other forms of financial assistance which may be available to Canadian students. Students are eligible to work off campus (some restrictions apply). For further information, contact your nearest Citizenship and Immigration Canada office.

Cambrian College is committed to ensuring you have a positive learning experience during your stay with us. For this reason, we must advise you that failure to meet your financial responsibility with the College may result in the termination of your acceptance and, therefore, of your Canadian Study Permit. To avoid this, please plan your finances carefully prior to traveling to Canada and be ready to meet all your financial obligations.

Paying in Non-Canadian Funds

It is easier and quicker for us if you pay your fees in Canadian funds. However, if paying in non-Canadian funds, please ask your bank to convert to Canadian or US funds. Because of the fluctuating nature of the dollar, we are unable to provide exact equivalents in currency other than Canadian.

It is your responsibility to ensure that the amount converted covers the amount owing. Failure to do so will delay the processing of your deposit. We will not be able to move you forward in the application process until our bank has converted your funds to Canadian equivalents.

Financial Assistance

If you are an international student studying on a student visa, you are not eligible for government student loans or bank loans in Canada.

It is your responsibility to identify, research, and secure sponsorships and bursaries to support your studies. As a first step, you may wish to contact the Canadian Embassy nearest you or to contact your own country's Embassy in Canada for guidance.

A Note About Health Insurance

International students are not covered under the Ontario health system and must purchase insurance coverage individually. This is mandatory and already included in the tuition fee.

All amounts are quoted in Canadian funds and are listed for reference only. They may be subject to change.

Paying Your Fees

Fees can be paid by credit card (Visa, MasterCard or American Express), certified cheque, bank draft or money order (made payable to Cambrian College), or if paying by electronic transfer.

If paying by electronic transfer, you will need the following information:
