Cambrian College President Sylvia Barnard, on behalf of the College community, extended best wishes to Paralympian Steve Daniel, who will be competing in the Beijing Paralympic Games next month.  Daniel, a third-year student in Cambrian's Business Administration program, was selected to compete in the arms-only single scull event.   The qualifying rounds and final race will take place from September 9 - 11, 2008.

Daniel will attend a final training camp in Victoria, British Columbia, from August 24 - 30 before departing for China.  "I have been watching the Olympics and am very excited to head to the Paralympics," said Daniel. "It is going to be an amazing experience."

Daniel only started rowing last summer.  Three years ago, the former Canadian Armed Forces sergeant had a free-fall parachuting accident in Trenton, Ontario, and suffered a spinal chord injury.  In 2007, he retired from the military and moved back to Greater Sudbury. He was determined to ensure that athletics continued to be a part of his life and this determination has enabled him to become a member of Canada's Paralympic team - competing against some of the best athletes in the world.
