Cambrian’s Glenn Crombie Centre Hosts Annual Learning Disabilities Conference

Release
May 2008

Wednesday, May 7, 2008 - Cambrian College’s Glenn Crombie Centre for disability services, in partnership with Nipissing University’s Counselling and Disability Services, is hosting its annual Learning Disabilities Conference.

The two-day conference will take place on Thursday, May 22 and Friday, May 23, 2008, at the College’s Barrydowne campus, with separate pathways for parents, educators, and secondary school students.

The conference will provide information on planning for postsecondary education, on ways to improve and enhance the learning experience, and how to effectively support students with learning disabilities. The conference sessions will also help participants to better understand learning disabilities, to learn postsecondary “survival” tips, and to learn how to use assistive technology.

Keynote speakers include Dr. Umesh Jain, who will speak about the effects of ADHD on academic performance and Dr. Marc Wilchesky, who will speak about the keys to successful transition from secondary to postsecondary studies. Both are well known leaders in their field.

“This year's Pathways Learning Disabilities Conference is gearing up to be an outstanding learning opportunity for educators, for parents of children of all ages, and for secondary students with learning disabilities,” says Marlene McIntosh, Learning Strategist/Assistive Technologist with the Glenn Crombie Centre. “This two-day conference will enable participants to hear from leading experts, to share experiences, and to find out about the latest tools, resources, and strategies. It is an event that will feature valuable information for everyone.”

For further information or to register, contact Marlene McIntosh at (705) 566-8101, extension 7219. Information about the conference is also available on Cambrian College’s website at http://homepages.cambrianc.on.ca/gcc/pathways.
