Cambrian's Heavy Equipment Programs Receive Vale Inco Donation

July 2008

Cambrian's Heavy Equipment students, apprentices, and SkyTech partners will reap the benefits from the donation of an Elphinstone R-1700G Loader from Vale Inco.

The loader will be dismantled and a simulator will be constructed using the power train components. It will provide students, apprentices, and employees of the College's SkyTech partners with the opportunity to train on equipment currently utilized in the trade. Equally important, the simulator will enable students to learn at a faster pace than on the original piece of equipment because of the accessibility of the components.

‘Vale Inco's contribution is significant to Cambrian because the loader exposes students to invaluable hands-on practical experience necessary in the industry today,’ said Heavy Equipment Program Coordinator Bob Huzij. ‘Not only will it ensure that our program reflects industry standards, but it will also ensure that the quality of our Heavy Equipment program is among the best in the province - thanks to valuable donations from companies such as Vale Inco.’
