Cambrian hosted the OFSAA (Ontario Federation of School Athletic Associations) Badminton Championships from May 6 through May 9, 2009. In attendance were 300 athletes, more than 100 coaches, as well as family and friends from all over Ontario.

The opening ceremonies were held on Thursday, May 07, 2009, and began with the athletes marching into the Cambrian gymnasium to the sound of bagpipes. Monica Zerbe, dramatic mezzo-soprano from Cambrian's School of Music, sang Oh Canada. This was the first time the event had been held in Sudbury since 2000.
