At the third annual Community Builders Awards of Excellence on March 1, 2006, Cambrian’s Glenn Crombie Centre for disability services was honoured with the Education Award. Accepting the Award on behalf of the Centre was Susan Alcorn MacKay, Director of Disability Services.
The Centre, which officially opened in June 1996, has grown from a one-room operation serving 230 students to a full-service 20,000 square-foot operation serving more than 760 students per year. Equally important, the community and surrounding areas have come to look to the Centre as a source of information about disability-related issues, products, and services.
"Former Cambrian College President, Glenn Crombie, was a man of vision who put together a team and we put together a plan. Over the years, we have been pleased and proud to assist students who have learning, physical, medical, hearing, or vision disabilities to achieve educational success and to further their employment and career goals".
