June 2008

Four students from Cambrian College's School of Hospitality travelled to Germany on May 3, 2008, as part of a student exchange program. Kim Coates, Chef Professor and Coordinator of Chef Training and Apprenticeship programs accompanied students Christine Malo, Samantha Sutinen, Jessica Reid, and Marie Marthe-Giroux.

The four were invited to sit in as guest students in various classes, including German language, political education, hotel management, and sports administration at the renowned Oberbarnimschule Private Hotel Restaurant Management School/Sports School in Eberswald, about 50 km east of Berlin.

German culture and fair were part of the excursion highlights. The group visited several historic sights in Eberswald, Bernau, Potsdam, and Berlin while experiencing excellent cuisine during their travels. The students were billeted by generous host families. In October, Coates and her students will return the hospitality, as approximately six to eight German students will arrive in Greater Sudbury to experience what Cambrian, its programs, and the community have to offer.
