From July 9 to July 13, Cambrian College hosted a Skills Canada-Ontario "Skills Work! for Youth" Employability Skills Camp, an event designed to emphasize the value of employability skills to youth and to introduce them to careers in skilled trades and technology. The activities and workshops focused on soft skills, such as communication, teamwork, and problem-solving.
Seven grades seven and eight students participated in this year's camp, where they engaged in three half-day workshops hosted by local professionals in the trades and technologies fields. The workshops covered the manufacturing, transportation, construction, and communications sectors of the trades and technology fields. The students also had the opportunity to receive hands-on experience in skilled trade careers available in their community and see an average day of work within various trades sectors, through tours organized by local industry representatives such as the Ministry of Natural Resources and Union Gas.
The Skills Canada-Ontario Summer Camp would like to acknowledge Cambrian College, the Ministry of Education, Hydro One, and the Far Northeast Training Board for their support.
