Many of Cambrian College's programs offer students workforce placements that give them the opportunity to gain practical work experience in their field.
Jenna Hamilton, a 2007 graduate of the College's Journalism program, recently returned from her six-week program placement in Ghana, Africa, with the Daily Press newspaper. Hamilton completed her placement internationally because she has always wanted to travel - but laying on the beach at a resort in the tropics was not Hamilton's idea of travelling. She wanted to experience a different culture in a challenging environment.
She remembers her first day of placement very well. "The feeling of waking up in foreign country and realizing I had to live there for six weeks was overwhelming," said Hamilton. The people, the smells, and the sounds were all different. While in Ghana, Hamilton worked as a reporter, which included writing stories, covering events, interviewing, and photographing.
