Cambrian College Computer Systems Technology students Terry Fera and Josh Ryan came away from the 18th annual Ontario Technological Skills Competition with two medals in the IT/PC Network category. Fera took the gold medal, while Ryan won the silver. The event, which took place from April 30 to May 2, in Waterloo, is a three-day competition in which students from across the province have the opportunity to showcase their talents and test themselves against industry standards.

Specifically, the IT-PC Network Support Competition requires participants to display knowledge of network operating systems and technologies. They must display knowledge of Cisco IOS and be able to assemble a functional computer network from scratch.

Fera's gold medal win at the Ontario Skills Competition has qualified him to compete in the nationals, which will be held in Saskatoon, June 6 to 9.

"Three years ago, we started in this competition just to see how we compared against other postsecondary institutions with similar programs," said Bob Vachon, coordinator of the Computer Systems Technology program. "That first year, we won the silver medal and last year we won the gold. We had high hopes that either Terry or Josh would return with a medal, but the fact that they won the gold and silver speaks volumes regarding the quality of our program here at Cambrian. This is definitely a proud moment for the College."
