Deputy Minister
On Monday, May 7, 2007, secondary school students in the Dual Credit program were visited by Philip Steenkamp, Deputy Minister of Training, Colleges and Universities, and Acting Deputy Minister of Education. The Deputy Minister spoke with the students in the Apprenticeship Plus and Administrative Assistant Advantage Dual Credit programs.

Apprenticeship Plus consists of 12 students from a number of area secondary schools, while Administrative Assistant Advantage consists of eight secondary school students from Lasalle,
St. Albert's, and St. Charles schools.

Rainbow District School Board
Close to 40 members of the Rainbow District School Board visited Cambrian on Thursday, May 17, 2007, for a review of the Dual Credit program.

Board members enjoyed lunch in Cambrian College's Fontaine Bleue dining room, which was prepared and served by secondary school students in the Chef - Apprenticeship Plus program. Board members were also given a first-hand look at the current Dual Credit models and the proposed Dual Credit programs for 2007-2008. Tours of the Nursing lab, Automotive lab, and a demo of the kitchen and pastry labs were also provided in order to give school board members the opportunity to discover the benefits that the Dual Credit programs provide to students.

Established in 2005, the Dual Credit programs are a way for secondary school students to earn credits by participating in apprenticeship training and post secondary courses that count towards their Ontario Secondary School Diploma and their postsecondary diploma, degree, or apprenticeship certification.
