On Friday, December 1, 2006, senior co-op construction students from Elliot Lake Secondary School were on campus to participate in special workshops and information sessions that provided them with an opportunity to explore some of the College’s programs.
Students were introduced to Cambrian’s Co-op Diploma Apprenticeship programs and eDome technology. They also attended a session on the new Energy Systems Technology program and got a sneak peek at the architectural design and sketches of the Cambrian College Centre for Excellence that will be constructed at the Barrydowne campus.
Students participated in an automation workshop, where they learned how industry uses computers, electronics, and robots to make things that are a part of our everyday lives. They were also able to see how a machine can think and make a decision.
The second workshop introduced them to the Civil Engineering program, where they learned about the strength of concrete and steel as it applies to structural design. The group was then able to make and break concrete and finally, test their surveying skills.
