The late Vern Dow, a former Cambrian College curling coach, and the Cambrian College women's 1985-1986 National Curling Champions, were inducted into the Sudbury Sports Hall of Fame at the 38th Annual Sports Celebrity Dinner held at the Caruso Club on June 6, 2007. Dow was honoured in the Administration category, while the Women's curling team was honoured in the team category.
Dow holds the distinction of being the first coach of Cambrian College's varsity curling team and the driving force behind the curling program's success on ice. Starting in 1970, Dow coached the team for 18 years, and under his direction, many of Cambrian's curling teams won gold at the Ontario Colleges Athletics Association (OCAA) regional and provincial championships. One of his greatest accomplishments was coaching the 1985-1986 Cambrian College women's curling team to a gold medal win at the Canadian Colleges Athletics Association (CCAA) National Championships.
The Annual Sports Celebrity Dinner recognizes the accomplishments of local athletes and coaches in eight categories. The Sudbury Sports Hall of Fame was introduced by the Sudbury Kinsmen Family Centre Foundation.
