On Tuesday, May 1, 2007, Cambrian College hosted Life after Secondary...preparing for the world of work, an event geared towards secondary school students who are not planning on returning to high school and have not yet applied to a postsecondary institution.
The day began with Cambrian College President Sylvia Barnard providing welcoming remarks to students at the event, followed by the opportunity to attend three workshops. In the Student Experiences workshop, students who did not come directly to Cambrian after high school shared their experiences. The Skills, Education and Experience session enabled students to learn about applying for a job, preparing for an interview, and other job-search related skills. There's Fun in Finances was a financial planning workshop with Kendall Yeomans, a financial planning advisor at Assante Wealth Management, who spoke to students about budgeting and money management. Maria Kostakos, Coordinator of the Counselling Centre at Cambrian, also spoke to students and provided them with a voucher for free career testing.
About 50 students from St. Benedict Catholic Secondary School, Chelmsford Valley District C.S., Ecole secondaire Hanmer, Sudbury Secondary School, and Ecole secondaire Champlain attended the Life after Secondary event.
