Hockey legend Jacques Demers, who is the 2006 honourary chair of the Literacy Foundation, visited Cambrian College on November 20 and met with a group of students from the Glenn Crombie Centre. Demers, the former coach of the Stanley Cup winning Montreal Canadians and a number of other N.H.L. teams, talked to the students about overcoming his own disability and the need for people to give themselves the “opportunity to succeed.”
Demers released a biography titled En toutes lettres in 2005, revealing that he has been functionally illiterate most of his life.
“You are great human beings with a great future...and don’t let anyone tell you otherwise.”
