August 19, 2008 – Cambrian College today announced that Joan Ashick and Linda Renaud are the recipients of the President’s Award for Excellence in the Support Staff and Administrator categories, respectively.

The President’s Award for Excellence was introduced in 1992 and recognizes those employees who have been exemplary in their efforts to not only achieve their own professional goals, but to inspire other members of the College community to set and achieve the highest standards. The Administrator and Support Staff categories are presented annually at Rendez-vous, an event which honours Award recipients as well as retirees and employees with long-standing service. This year, Rendez-vous will be held at the College on August 21.

President’s Award for Excellence – Support Staff Category

Joan Ashick, Caretaker/Horticulturist, has been a member of the Cambrian community for 30 years. Ashick is also a member of the College’s Environmental Advisory Committee, an Alternate on the Health and Safety Committee, and a past member of the Staff Development Committee.

Ashick’s creative talent is evident from the moment staff, students, and visitors arrive at the College’s Barrydowne campus. The personal and professional pride she takes in her work combined with her expertise has helped make Cambrian’s Barrydowne campus one of the loveliest college environments in the Ontario college system. The beautiful flower gardens and the well-manicured and well-maintained grounds all reflect Ashick’s talent and dedication and her focus on providing all who work, learn, and visit Cambrian with an attractive and pristine environment. A mentor to summer students who work on the College grounds, Ashick shares her passion and leads by example. She is a most deserving recipient of a President’s Award for Excellence.

President’s Award for Excellence – Administrator Category

Linda Renaud, the Chair of Continuing Education, has been a Cambrian employee since 1990. During this time, she has also held the positions of Chef du Marketing and Manager of International Initiatives. Renaud is the College’s representative on the national Adult Learner Friendly Institution Committee and the Chair of the provincial Heads of Continuing Education committee.

In her current position, Renaud is responsible for the Continuing Education office, The Enterprise Centre, eLearning, and eDome. She also represents Cambrian on an international level, and has played a major role in furthering Cambrian’s position in Latin America, in particular. Renaud’s natural leadership ability and her focus on excellence help ensure the College’s strategic directions are carried out in a professional, efficient, and caring manner. She is known for her commitment to the College as well as her quick wit and musical talent. A Cambrian alumna, Renaud’s commitment to her Alma Mater and its students and clients is reflected in all she does. She is a worthy recipient of a President’s Award for Excellence.
