June 2008

Marcia Ranger, an Electrical Engineering Technology professor, was honoured with the 2008 Glen Beatty Award at the closing ceremony for the Ontario Technological Skills Competition on Wednesday, May 7, 2008. The award recognizes her significant impact on young people in the community.

Glen Beatty was a participant in the 1997 Ontario Technological Skills competition in the Precision Machining contest who then went on to the Canadian Skills Competition. Following his outstanding performances at both the provincial and national level, Glen was hired by ATS Automation Tooling Systems in Cambridge, Ontario. Grateful for the opportunity given to him and the impact it had on his life, Glen returned to Skills Canada - Ontario in 1998 as a volunteer. In January 1999, Glen was tragically killed in a car accident - a tremendous loss to the organization, the community, and to all those who knew him.

The Glen Beatty Award is given out annually to a volunteer, or volunteers, who embody the same dedication and passion for
Skills Canada - Ontario that Glenn had.
