On March 10, 2006, Jesse Winters, a financial advisor for National Bank Financial and a well-known community volunteer, made a $20,000 donation to the Cambrian Foundation that will be put towards the creation of a new bursary for the College’s Nursing program. Through the Ontario Trust for Student Support (OTSS) program, which matches dollar-for-dollar every contribution to permanent endowments, the value of the donation becomes $40,000.
Named in honour of Mr. Winter’s late mother, The Dorothy Winters Memorial Bursary will serve in perpetuity to commemorate Mrs. Winter’s lifetime of service to the well-being of her community. The bursary will be awarded to students in the Bachelor of Science in Nursing (B.Sc.N.) program on the basis of financial need, academic achievement, and demonstrated volunteerism in their community.
Mr. Winters’ donation is one of the single largest personal gifts to Cambrian College in recent history.
