New National Certification added to Physical Fitness and Leisure Management Program

Feature
February 2006

In February 2006, Cambrian College became one of the first educational institutions in Canada to make the National Personal Trainer certification available to students. During February, third-year students in the College’s Physical Fitness and Leisure Management program participated in two-day workshops that enabled them to add this nationally-recognized certification to their academic credentials.

The certification, recently endorsed by the Canadian Society for Exercise Physiology (CSEP) through their Health and Fitness Program, enables Cambrian students and graduates to provide physical activity/exercise programs to individuals using the services of a personal trainer. This certification is in addition to the Certified Fitness Consultant certification that the Physical Fitness and Leisure Management students take as part of the second year of the program.
