On September 9, Cambrian College's Wabnode Institute held a sacred Flag Raising ceremony that encompassed Native song and prayer and acknowledged the beginning of a new academic year.

"Our Elders, who are respected advisors in our Native culture, suggested we incorporate the annual raising of our flag into our ceremony welcoming the new school year," said Joyce Helmer, Chair of the Wabnode Institute. "The raising of the flag honours and acknowledges who we are and is symbolic of our recommitment to students and the work that we do."
