When I graduated from high school, I had no clue as to what I wanted to do for the rest of my life. But, I did know what I did not want to do. I did not want to become an engineer because I’m not very good at inventing and applying things. I also did not want to become a doctor. Don’t ask me why! So, my Uncle suggested two career choices – nursing and accounting. I knew I did not want to become a nurse because I hate seeing people in pain and I pass out at the sight of the blood … definitely not good traits for a career in nursing. After some consideration, I chose Accounting! I figure job security is strong seeing as every company needs someone to take care of their finances, no matter how good or bad their situation is. I also really like how structured and regulated the accounting field is. Things have to be done a specific way and that’s the end of it! You don’t have to come up with 20 different ways to figure something out! These are the main reasons that I love my program!
In a few years, my brother will be graduating from high school, too! We always ask him what he wants to do with his future. I always tell him follow his interests as opposed to following a career that offers a big salary. In my opinion, happiness is much more important than being rich! Also, if you don’t like your job, you will begin to hate it after a while and ultimately become miserable! On the other hand, if you truly enjoy what you do, you will likely excel in that field and have opportunities to ‘work your way up’ within any institution! But for me, the most important thing is to love the job you are doing.
I know so many people who love their jobs dearly and are happy doing it over and over each and every day! I also know people who don’t like their jobs and it shows that they are not truly happy! In most cases, they went after the money and not their passions! Trust me, to like what you do at work is a beautiful thing! So, my advice to everyone is to follow your heart and your passions and happiness and joy will quickly follow!
