Ontario Student Assistance Program (OSAP)

Application Process

The OSAP application process begins in May. You are encouraged to submit your Cambrian College OSAP application using the Ministry's electronic application, which can be found on the OSAP website at http://osap.gov.on.ca. You should apply for OSAP at least two months prior to the start of classes and return any requested material/documentation to Cambrian College's Financial Aid office as soon as possible.

Web Appplication

For more information, or if you have questions, please go to the OSAP website where you will find more detailed information and the web application.

What is OSAP?

OSAP is a loans, grants, and bursaries program. Your loan assessment is based on the information that you supply on the application form that you submit. The information that you provide determines what type of funds, if any, you will receive from this program.

OSAP eligibility criteria:

  • You must have lived in Ontario for 12 consecutive months prior to starting your postsecondary education.
  • You have to be taking at least 60% of a full course load or 40% if you are a student with a permanent disability.
  • Your program choice must be an OSAP approved program that leads to the completion of a diploma or degree.

Please note: As a new OSAP applicant, you will be subject to a credit check. This is to ensure that funding is not issued to individuals with a history of serious credit abuse.

Depending on your eligibility, OSAP will consider covering the following:

  • tuition and compulsory fees
  • child care expenses
  • books/supplies/tools/equipment
  • personal living expenses

Benefits of applying online

  • You can apply online any time of the day, any day of the week.
  • It is quick and easy.
  • You get an estimate of the amount of your funding as soon as you submit your application.

Note:  A paper application is also available at no charge.  It can be printed off the OSAP website at http://osap.gov.on.ca

Application Deadlines

One semester program:
Once you have submitted your online OSAP application, your application will be processed and then sent to Cambrian College's Financial Aid office. Your OSAP application must be received by Cambrian College's Financial Aid office within the first 30 days that your study period begins. Two or three semester's program:
The application must be received by the Financial Aid office at Cambrian College within the first 45 days of the start of your study period. If your application is received after the first 45 days and no later than 90 days before your study period ends, you will be eligible for the funding portion from the date which your application is received. You will not be entitled to your funding if your application is received less than 90 days before the end of your study period.
