The E-STAT web site is an interactive teaching and learning resource for educational communities, providing access to an extensive database of reliable and current statistics about all aspects of Canadian life. Additional links to Internet resources provided by Statistics Canada are also listed on the library web site.
To Start:
• Click on the link for E-STAT or type the following URL in the appropriate box on your Internet browser:

• Scroll down and click on the Accept and Enter button.

This link provides the user with access points for retrieving statistical data.
• Choose from a list of broad subject categories to display CANSIM or Census tables on more specific topics within each category
1. CANSIM Data
• Provides links to CANSIM tables with statistical data on selected topics within a chosen subject area
• Choose a broad subject heading from the list of folders on the screen
• Select a more specific subject heading from the list of folders on the next screen
• Select a CANSIM table from the list
• Select more specific categories for your topic from the boxes displayed on the screen
• Select a reference period (dates) from the drop-down menus
• To retrieve data in tabular format, click on the Retrieve as table button; for data in graph format, click on the Retrieve as individual time series button
• Select the desired screen output format or the downloadable file format
• Click on the Retrieve button
2. Census Databases
• Presents census data on a chosen topic
• Choose a broad subject heading from the list of folders
• Choose from the list of available census data
• Select more specific categories for your topic from the boxes displayed on the screen, then choose an output format
• Note that the census data can also be displayed in various formats on a map of Canada
Search CANSIM in E-STAT:
• Allows you to search for CANSIM data by keyword or to browse CANSIM topics by broad subject category
• CANSIM (or Canadian Socioeconomic Information Management System) contains time series data on labour, health, income, trade, education, manufacturing, investment, and more
Search Censuses:
• Allows you to search for statistical data in individual censuses back to 1986 and to find historical census data from 1665 to 1871
• You may search for data on a specific characteristic (age, religion, etc.) or from a particular geographic region
